Traditional Ideas and Social Action

DS_Accessible.jpg

A heartfelt conversation with Jivana Heyman of Accessible Yoga.

We discuss my book, The Truth of Yoga, and broader questions of how to teach philosophy more accessibly. We also explore whether ancient texts promote social engagement, and reflect on the importance of defining objectives.

The show notes sum it up well: “Do we want a relationship with tradition in the first place? And if we do, what are we actually trying to achieve with yoga?” Along the way, we also touch on the following:

  • The role of ethics – including honesty about traditional teachings say.

  • Union vs. separation, and differences between the Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Sutras on questions of right action, interconnection and compassion.

  • The link between yoga and meditation, and the power in subtle practices.

The ultimate choice is to become more consciously involved in the world, not to retreat from it. You can hear the whole podcast below, or via Accessible Yoga.
